Key takeaways
  • Recruiter guides put a marketing executive in the UAE at about AED 17,000 to 25,000 a month in total package.
  • The paperwork is fast (the Work Bundle processes a work permit in about 5 working days) but notice periods of 30 to 90 days make most hires start 2 to 3 months after the offer.
  • Probation can last up to 6 months, and either side must follow written notice rules set by Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021.
  • In our estimate, a AED 20,000 a month executive costs around AED 324,000 in year one once fees, visa, insurance, gratuity and a desk are added.

For many Dubai SMEs, the first marketing hire is a marketing executive: one person to run the ads, post on Instagram, update the website and chase leads. Hiring a marketing executive in Dubai looks simple until the notice period, the visa steps and the first quiet months arrive. This guide covers the salary, the legal steps, the real timeline and what to expect before the hire pays off.

What a marketing executive earns in Dubai

These guides track the people recruiters place, often at larger companies. You will see lower salaries on job boards, but for someone who can run paid ads and reporting on their own, plan for the ranges above. Agree the split between basic salary and allowances early, because gratuity is calculated on basic only.

The hiring steps, from job ad to first day

These steps apply to a mainland company. Free zone companies follow the same logic through their free zone authority instead of MOHRE.

  1. Define the job by outcome. Write the 2 or 3 results you expect in the first 90 days (for example, cost per lead, response time, posts per week), then the skills.
  2. Source and interview. Use job boards, LinkedIn and referrals, or a recruiter. Recruiters charge a percentage of annual salary, paid by the employer; our estimate for this level is 15% to 20%. Include a paid or short practical task, such as auditing your current ads.
  3. Issue the MOHRE job offer. A UAE job offer is issued through MOHRE, signed by the authorised manager and by the candidate, and can be checked with its reference number. The standard contract must match it.
  4. Apply for the work permit. No one may work for you before the permit is issued. Under the Work Bundle, processing has dropped from 30 working days to 5, and the fee is AED 250 to AED 3,450 depending on your company's MOHRE classification.
  5. Entry permit or status change. For a candidate abroad, the entry permit is valid for two months, and procedures must be completed within one month of arrival. Candidates already in the UAE change status instead.
  6. Medical test, Emirates ID and insurance. The employee takes the medical fitness test and applies for the Emirates ID within the validity of the pre-approval. In Dubai, the employer must provide health insurance. The Emirates ID costs AED 100 per year plus a AED 100 service fee.
  7. Residence visa issued, contract registered, first day.

All of this is the employer's cost. Article 6 of the labour law forbids charging the worker recruitment and employment fees. Dubai service firms quote AED 3,000 to AED 7,000 for a two year employment visa all in.

A realistic timeline

The government steps are no longer the bottleneck. The candidate's notice period is. Under Article 43, notice must be between 30 and 90 days, and both sides must respect it or pay compensation.

Stage Typical duration
Brief, job ad, sourcing, interviews 3 to 6 weeks (our estimate)
Offer accepted, candidate resigns Week 0 of notice
Notice period at current employer 30 to 90 days (Article 43)
Work permit, visa, medical, Emirates ID About 1 to 3 weeks, run during notice (our estimate, permit step about 5 working days)
First day to useful output 1 to 3 months (our estimate)
Peak performance Around 12 months (Gallup)

So from the day you decide to hire to the day the person runs campaigns on their own, plan for roughly 3 to 5 months.

Probation and notice rules under Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021

Article 9 sets the probation rules:

  • Probation can last up to 6 months, and only once with the same employer.
  • The employer can end employment during probation with at least 14 days written notice.
  • An employee moving to another UAE employer during probation must give at least one month written notice, and the new employer compensates the original employer for recruitment costs unless agreed otherwise.
  • An employee leaving the UAE during probation must give at least 14 days written notice.
  • Whoever breaks these rules owes the other side the wage for the notice period.

After probation, the general notice period applies (30 to 90 days, same for both parties unless it favours the worker). Annual leave is 30 days per year of service (Article 29), and end of service gratuity starts after one year: 21 days of basic wage per year for the first five years (Article 51).

Year one cost of a AED 20,000 a month executive

Ramp-up: making the first 90 days count

A new executive cannot run your marketing from day one, however good they are. They need your offer, your prices, your customers' questions and access to every account. Gallup notes that only 12% of US employees say their company does a good job of onboarding, so this is where most hires lose months.

  • Weeks 1 to 2: access to ad accounts, analytics, CRM, WhatsApp Business and the website; read 50 real customer conversations.
  • Weeks 3 to 6: take over one channel completely, with a weekly report on one KPI.
  • Weeks 7 to 12: add a second channel and propose the next quarter's plan.

If you are weighing a hire against other options

A single executive is often asked to cover ads, content, CRM and lead replies alone, which is several jobs. Hadi installs an AI marketing team instead: six specialist AI agents coordinated by Hadi and run every month by a dedicated human growth expert, set up in 4 to 6 weeks. Some businesses still need a hire, and some use both. We lay out the trade-offs in agency vs in-house vs AI marketing team in Dubai. To talk it through, contact us or Talk on WhatsApp.

Frequently asked questions

What is the salary of a marketing executive in Dubai?

The Hays GCC Salary Guide 2025 puts a marketing executive at AED 17,000 to 21,000 a month and a senior executive at AED 23,000 to 26,000. The Robert Walters 2026 survey lists a marketing or digital executive at AED 18,000 to 25,000, averaging AED 21,500.

How long is probation in the UAE?

Up to six months under Article 9 of Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, and only once with the same employer. The employer must give at least 14 days written notice to end employment during probation.

Who pays for the employment visa in the UAE?

The employer. Article 6 of the labour law prohibits charging the worker recruitment and employment fees, directly or indirectly. That covers the work permit, residence visa and related costs.

How long does it take a new marketing hire to become productive?

Gallup's experience is that new employees take around 12 months to reach peak performance. A marketer in a business with a clear offer, clean data and documented processes can deliver useful work much sooner, but plan for a gradual ramp rather than results in month one.
